Osseous Surgery
The main objective behind treating gum disease is to eliminate the deep gum pockets which serve as a reservoir for bacteria which will destroy the bone and supporting tissues around your teeth. If untreated these pockets will get worse, increase in depth with time and will ultimately result in tooth loss.
With osseous surgery the infected gum tissue in deep pockets is trimmed away and uneven bone tissue re-contoured. Following healing this results in a shallower pocket that you would be able to keep clean at home with toothbrushing and flossing and we would be able to maintain for you at your regularly scheduled periodontal maintenance appointments. Osseous surgery is the main method by which we surgically treat gum disease. It is an effective and reliable way of treating gum disease.
