Tarek El Sayegh, DDS, PhD, Cert Perio, FRCD(C)
Dr. Tarek El Sayegh completed his general dentistry training at the University of Toronto in 2002. He then went on to complete graduate specialty training in Periodontology combined with a PhD also at the University of Toronto, in 2007. His PhD research was focused on the connective tissue fibroblast biology, the very cells that are of central importance for periodontal wound healing. Dr. El Sayegh has published several articles and given numerous lectures across Canada and also internationally in the field of periodontics and on his research.
In addition to practicing periodontics and implant surgery in Waterloo, Dr. El Sayegh is also an Assistant Professor at the University of Western Ontario, Department of Periodontology, where he is involved in clinical research and teaching, surgical periodontal treatment, and is also the director of an undergraduate periodontal course.
Dr. El Sayegh is both a fellow and a periodontics examiner of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. The Royal College of Dentists is an organization that is involved in maintaining the high standard of practice of the recognized dental specialties through examinations created specifically for each dental specialty. The examinations of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada are used by the province of Ontario (amongst others) as part of the requirement for licensure as a specialist.
